Jiribam, July 11 2026:
Echel Club, Jiribam has voiced strong dissatisfaction over the quality and pace of work on the ongoing construction of the Jiri-Tipaimukh (JT) Road and the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in the district.
Addressing a press conference, the club's general secretary, Y Bidit Singh, said the 105-km Jiri-Tipaimukh Road project, estimated at around Rs 147 crore, has remained incomplete even after three years.
He alleged that several blacktopped stretches have already deteriorated, while many portions of the road are yet to be blacktopped.
He said the club had submitted memoranda and made repeated appeals to the Governor, former Deputy Commissioner Krishna Kumar and other concerned authorities, urging them to ensure proper completion of the project.
Although assurances were given on several occasions, no visible improvement has been made, he claimed.
Referring to reports that loaded trucks bound for Imphal may be allowed to park along the road, Bidit urged the authorities to first repair the numerous potholes and damaged stretches before permitting such parking.
He further informed that another memorandum was submitted to the newly appointed Deputy Commissioner on Friday.
According to him, the DC responded positively and assured that the matter would be looked into.
The club also raised concern over the Jal Jeevan Mission water supply project at Dibong, stating that although the project is reportedly nearing completion, it has yet to become operational.
The club urged the authorities to commission the scheme at the earliest and ensure a regular supply of safe drinking water to the people.
The press conference was attended by office bearers, advisers and members of Echel Club as well as representatives of various Self-Help Groups.
