CCpur, May 06 2025:
Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) strongly condemned the recent announcement made by the Rashtrahit Sarvopari Sangathan (RSS) and its affiliated Hindu organisations to launch the so-called 'Chalo Manipur' march, which openly calls for lakhs of individuals to enter Kuki-inhabited hill areas with the intent of 'rehabilitating displaced Meeteis'.
Dubbing the campaign as not only provocative and deeply irresponsible, the KIM said, in a statement, that the proposed campaign is a deliberate attempt to escalate the already volatile situation in Manipur and further incite ethnic violence.
The attempts to portray the proposed march as a religious rehabilitation effort are disingenuous and dangerous, the Kuki Inpi said, adding that the so-called 'Chalo Manipur' campaign is a veiled effort to forcibly push Meeteis into Kuki territories with full awareness that this would lead to fresh clashes, communal tension and bloodshed.
The KIM statement, signed by information and publicity secretary Janghaulun, continued that the march flagged off in New Delhi by a coalition of right-wing organisations was nothing but a reckless mobilisation intended to provoke hostilities and disrupt peace in the hills.
"It aligns disturbingly with former chief minister N Biren Singh's one-sided governance, which openly supported Meetei vigilante groups and remained silent or complicit when atrocities are committed against tribals," the KIM statement added.
While alleging that state machinery has consistently failed to protect minority hill communities and this latest move appears to be a continuation of a broader plan to eliminate or forcibly displace Kukis from their ancestral lands, the KIM urged the Government of India and security agencies to immediately intervene and prevent any such provocative march from taking place.
The KIM also called on international human rights observers and national media to take serious note of the dangerous escalation and hold the responsible parties accountable.
Should the proposed 'Chalo Manipur' go ahead, KIM would hold the Government of India and the state government fully responsible for any resulting violence, loss of life or destruction of property, it warned.
