Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) observed today 23rd International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit trafficking at the Manipur Press Club, Major Khul, Imphal.
A panel discussion was also organized under the theme "Collective Effort in Overcoming Drug Abuse, Illicit Trafficking and Reverting HIV Infection in Manipur".
Realising the impact of drug abuse and illicit trafficking and the consequent spreading of HIV/AIDS in all cross section of society during the last three decades, today's panel discussion recommended state government to form committee with representatives with concerned deptts as to deal effectively with drug abuse, illicit trafficking and reverting HIV infection in Manipur; Others recomend includes to urge government to review the existing Acts and laws to deal with drug abuse and illicit trafficking, Inclusion of drug abuse and HIV/AIDS in school education curriculum, the cost of treatment in all the drug rehabilitation centres be uniformly regulated.
The further recommend the state govt.be urged to frame policy on drug abuse and illicit trafficking, the state govt.be urged to open drug rehabilitation centre in every distt.
of the state, sustainability policy of the recovering substance users be framed by state govt.For the collective involvement of the NGOs, civil organizations and the people in general in overcoming drug abuse, illicit & reverting HIV infection in the state, sensitizing and networking programmes be taken up throughout the state, NGOs and civil organizations be supported and co-operated in overcoming drug abuse and illicit trafficking and the media be urged to publish information education at least once a month about drug abuse, illicit trafficking and HIV/AIDS.
