RIMS marks World Liver Day with free Hepatitis screening

The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, observed World Li ver Day today at the hospital's OPD Complex.
As per a release issued by RIMS, this year's observance was centered on the theme "Solid Habits, Strong Liver", aiming to boost public awareness regarding liver health and the importance of preventive healthcare.
The event was attended by dignitaries, including Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director, RIMS; Prof N Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent, RIMS Hospital; RK Mecolt Singh, Deputy Director (Administration); and K Tomba Meitei, Chief Accounts Officer/Financial Advisor, RIMS.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Sunil Kumar characterized liver disease as a "major yet preventable killer" in India.
He emphasized that early detection is crucial and can be achieved through routine screenings like LFT (Liver Function Test), ultrasound, and fibroscan.
To maintain liver health, he urged the public to adopt balanced diets, exercise regularly, and significantly reduce or avoid alcohol consumption.
In a move toward inclusive healthcare, RIMS organised a free screening programme for Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C.This initiative was made available not only to the public but also specifically extended to the institute's support staff, including outsourced housekeeping and sanitary personnel.
Alongside, Prof Sunil Kumar formally rededicated the renovated Trauma Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Trauma Operation Theatre (OT) located in the Casualty Building.
The renovation project focused on upgrading the physical space to meet growing patient demand, integrating modem medical technology to enhance care quality, and streamlining delivery of timely, high-quality care for critically injured patients.
The upgraded facilities were dedicated in the presence of hospital faculty, HODs, and staff, marking a significant step forward in the institute's capacity to handle emergency and trauma services.
