Social Welfare Dept highlights key schemes at 'Meet the Press'

The Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), Manipur, organised the second session of its "Meet the Press" series today at the DIPR Auditorium, Nityaipat Chuthek, Imphal.
Officials of the Social Welfare Department highlighted the department's major welfare initiatives and upcoming programmes.
Representing the department were Sheikh Abdul Hakim, Director; Jiteshwar Keisham and N Binobala, Joint Directors; and K Saroja and L Dhaneshwar, Deputy Directors.

Addressing the media, Sheikh Abdul Hakim said the Social Welfare Department is a key implementing agency for Centrally Sponsored Schemes, with around 22 sub-schemes running through assistance from various Central Ministries.
Under the Ministry of Women and Child Development, the department implements Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) with around 11,585 Anganwadi Centres providing nutrition, healthcare and preschool education, besides support to pregnant and lactating mothers.
It is also implementing Mission Shakti for women empowerment and Mission Vatsalya for child protection through Juvenile Justice Boards, Child Welfare Committees, Children's Homes and Observation Homes.
Under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, the department manages homes for persons with disabilities, operates 25 De-addiction Rehabilitation Centres with 100% Central funding, and oversees 41 Old Age Homes.
He informed that 47 Shakti Sadan centres provide shelter and rehabilitation to women in distress for up to three years, and 51 Sakhi Niwas hostels offer safe accommodation to working women and students.
Women facing violence can access the 181 Women Helpline.
The Director announced that on July 20, the Chief Minister will distribute benefits worth around Rs 104 crore.
A 15-day campaign achieved 99.9% documentation coverage.
About 1,07,082 beneficiaries will receive aid under the Manipur Old Age Pension Scheme and 13,599 under the Chief Minister Widow Pension Scheme of Rs 500 per month.
The Ima Nongthang Leima Scheme also covers widows, single and transgender women.
For persons with disabilities, the department provides scholarships, unemployment allowance, maintenance grants, and is conducting surveys and camps for UDID cards across all Assembly Constituencies.
