Moirang, December 09 2025:
Residents of Leimapokpam and Khunpham have issued a five-day ultimatum to the Government to repair the badly dilapidated Ishok-Malom stretch, popularly known as Chingphu road, particularly the portion between Wahengkhuman Keithel and Leimapokpam PHC.
Local leaders warned that if authorities fail to take up the work within the given time, villagers will begin repairs themselves by pooling money, even if it means surviving on just one meal a day.
The decision was adopted during a public meeting held today at Leimapokpam Keithel, attended by representatives of Leimapokpam and Khunpham club organisations, Meira Paibi Lup members and local residents.
Speaking at the gathering, Maibam Sharda, a Meira Paibi member, said people have waited for years in hope that authorities would intervene and restore the road.
However, despite repeated appeals, the route remains neglected and in a worsening state.
She noted that during the rainy season the road turns muddy and nearly impassable, while in dry months commuters struggle through clouds of dust - a hardship villagers have endured for far too long.
United Development Committee (UDC) president Oinam Ibotomba stated that the road, which falls under Nambol AC and passes through Leimapokpam and Khunpham, serves as a lifeline for many nearby villages.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the prolonged neglect, he questioned whether the locality was considered part of Nambol AC or even Manipur at all, given the absence of basic infrastructural attention.
He reiterated the ultimatum, stating that villagers are prepared to contribute from their own pockets and initiate repairs if authorities fail to take up the work within five days.
