A recent incident in Lilong Yangbi Leikai, where a mob intervened and rescued a drug trafficking suspect from a combined team of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Imphal, Commando, and Lilong Police, has drawn strong condemnation from the Kabui Union, Manipur.
The incident occurred on February 27, 2026, at 7 pm, when law enforcement attempted to apprehend Md Sabir Ahammed (age 26) in connection with a drug case linked to seizures at the airport.
The local populace reportedly clashed with the police, allowing the suspect to escape.
The Kabui Union noted this was not an isolated event but one of several similar occurrences.
In a press release issued today from their head office in Mahabali Kabui village, the Union praised the efforts of the Manipur Police and civil societies in the fight against drugs.
However, they strongly criticized those who support drug trafficking activities, stating that those who break the law and those who support them deserve punishment.
"Those trying to destroy society for money are enemies of the land", the statement declared.
The Union urged the State Government to declare areas with drug trafficking as "Red Zones" to facilitate a "Drug Free" Manipur.
They also emphasized the need for community vigilance, calling on local clubs and Meira Paibi to Implement entry checks in their localities as a preventative measure.
Kabui Union also highlighted the devastating impact of drugs in the region, noting that countless lives have been lost and many addicts are waiting to die, underscoring the urgency to eradicate drug traffickers from the land.
