Imphal, February 07 2024:
Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has vehemently condemned the spilling of oil into Iril River near Dolaithabi dam allegedly by Kuki miscreants on Wednesday.
In a release, COCOMI media coordinator Yumkhaibam Surjitkumar Khuman said that soon after the Kuki militants attacked the Naga dominated areas of Moirangpurel and Tumulok on Tuesday, they spilled toxic fuel remnants into the Iril River near Dolaithabi dam on Wednesday.
This act is an attempt to poison the people living downstream of Iril River near Dolaithabi dam.
It is a very serious crime as it amounts to attempt to poison to death people who are dependent on the river for water.
Pointing out that the incident of spilling oil into rivers by the Kuki militants is for the second time with the first witnessed in Leimakhong area where it led to an environmental disaster, the release said the continuous attacks on the life and property of the Meeteis by the Kuki militants since May 3 last is condemnable in the strongest terms.
Likening the diabolic acts of the Kukis to genocide, the media coordinator suggested that the state government take immediate measures to investigate and arrest the culprits involved.
The release further said that the act would be highlighted to the international community and to the UN bodies and asked the Kuki community not to target innocent Meetei people.
COCOMI further appealed to the security forces to take firm action against the Kuki militants and their sympathisers.
