Imphal, February 07 2024:
Some ruling MLAs do not want to simply make up the numbers at the national executive meeting or national convention of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to be held on February 17 and 18 but are eager to have a session for discussing the violence gripping the state at the party's congregation.
According to a source within the party, some ruling MLAs are very much in favour of putting up some agenda relating to the more than nine months long violence in Manipur for discussion at the BJP national convention rather than attend the convention to make their presence felt.
Ahead of the Lok, Sabha polls likely to be held in April or May this year, the national convention of BJP scheduled on February 17 and 18 will be opened by party president JP Nadda while Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the party leaders at the convention on the last day.
The BJP national convention to be attended by national executive members, office bearers of national council and district presidents from different states will chalk out strategies to ensure party's success in the upcoming Lok Sabha election.
The convention will also discuss about the roles and responsibilities to be played by BJP leaders and office bearers for the success in the Lok Sabha election.
Participation in the national executive meeting remains anxious for party leaders and MLAs of the state.
Some ruling MLAs are of the view that state-specific agenda should be enlisted for discussion at the convention.
With the central leaders still reluctant to take a decisive stand to end the protracted violence in Manipur and the state government unable to control the violence or take action on its own, majority of the ruling MLAs are in a state of confusion.
As such, they are not interested in attending the convention only to appease the national leaders.
