The prolonged pen-down strike called by the Lecturers' Association of Manipur (LAM) 2018 batch has severely disrupted academic activities at Heirok Higher Secondary School, sparking concern among students, particularly those preparing for the upcoming Class XII examinations.
Reacting to the academic deadlock, students of the school, in collaboration with MSF Thoubal district, staged a protest demonstration on campus demanding immediate resumption of normal classes and restoration of academic activities.
Moirangthem Lanchenba, a student of Class XII Science participating in the protest, stated that the pendown strike by the lecturers had left learning activities at a complete standstill.
With Class XII examination approaching, many students have grown anxious and fear that the situation will severely impact their preparation.
He urged the government to intervene and meet the legitimate demands of the teachers so that normal classes could resume without further delay.
During the protest, students held placards with messages like "We Want Education", "Government' must Intervene Immediately and Resolved the Issue", "Meet the Demands of the Agitating Lecturers", etc, were used by the students.
The school Principal, Sh Jayenta stated that 8 teachers from the school were currently participating in the pen-down strike.
As a result, academic functioning had come to a halt, and regular classes could no longer be conducted.
He called on the Government to take urgent steps to resolve the issue in the interest of the students.
Meanwhile, as part of the pen-down strike at the college, a press conference was held today, during which English Lecturer Kh Premjit reiterated their appeal to the authorities to fulfil the long-pending demand for regularisation of services.
"As teachers, we also do not feel good about not taking the classes," Premjit said.
He added that the lecturers have endured a long struggle and made sacrifices for the welfare of students.
If the authorities concerned fail to act promptly, they warned of launching more intense forms of agitation in the days ahead.
