Pulse Polio immunisation drive launched across state

Kakching/Pherzawl/Chandel/Kangpokpi/Senapati, June 28 2026:
The Intensified Pulse Polio Immunisation (IPPI) campaign was launched across Kakching, Pherzawl, Chandel, Churachandpur, Kangpokpi and Senapati districts on Sunday with the objective of protecting children below five years of age against poliomyelitis and ensuring complete immunisation coverage.
KAKCHING
In Kakching, the campaign was formally inaugurated at the Urban Primary Health Centre by Deputy Commissioner Angeline Renita R.The drive is being organised by the District Health Society, Kakching, in collaboration with the District Family Welfare, Kakching, under the supervision of the District Administration.
A total of 135 vaccination booths have been set up across Kakching district, with a target of immunising 10,702 children during the three-day campaign.
During the launch programme, oral polio vaccines were administered to children in the 0-5 years age group.
Chief Medical Officer Kakching Thaodem Rajen and District Immunisation Officer (in-charge) Dr Ksh Sumati were among those present at the programme.
The campaign will continue with house-to-house vaccination visits on June 29 and a mop-up drive on June 30 to cover children who may have missed vaccination at the booths.
PHERZAWL
Pherzawl launched the IPPI campaign at Community Health Centre (CHC), Parbung, by Dr Thanglienzuol, Medical Officer in-charge, along with Parbung Village Authority Chairman Zothansang, who administered polio drops to children.
The programme was organised by the District Health Society, Pherzawl, in collaboration with the Department of Health & Family Welfare and National Health Mission, Manipur.
Frontline workers, including ANMs, ASHA workers and Anganwadi workers, participated in the campaign along with parents and guardians.
Pherzawl district has established 59 vaccination booths with a target of covering 3,414 children.
Officials informed that booth-level vaccination will be followed by house-to-house visits on June 29 and a mop-up campaign on June 30 .
CHANDEL
In Chandel, the National Immunisation Day (NID)/Pulse Polio Immunisation Programme 2026 was launched at Chandel Christian Community Hall by Reikimdaar Khaling, SDO, Chandel Block, in the presence of Chief Medical Officer Dr Joyson Mathew Monsang and village chiefs.
The programme was organised by the District Health Society and Office of the District Immunisation Officer, Chandel, to prevent the reintroduction of wild poliovirus and safeguard children below five years of age.
Around 4,300 children were covered on the first day itself in Chandel, Khengjoy and Chakpikarong Blocks against the district target of 5,358 children.
Door-to-door, immunisation activities will continue over the next two days.
CHURACHANDPUR
In Churachandpur, the campaign was formally launched at the District Hospital Conference Hall, where Chief Medical Officer Dr Ph Henkhoneng Mate administered oral polio drops to children below five years.
The programme was organised by the District Health Society in association with the Department of Health and Family Welfare and National Health Mission, Manipur.
Dr Kh Sania Monica, Medical Superintendent of District Hospital and DFWO/DIO, Churachandpur, along with health officials, frontline workers and parents attended the launch.
The district has set up 321 vaccination booths and aims to immunise 27,190 children during the campaign.
KANGPOKPI
Kangpokpi district launched the IPPI campaign along with the Stop Diarrhoea Campaign 2026 at the District Immunisation Office.
The combined health initiative was inaugurated in the presence of Lamminlal Simte, ADM Kangpokpi.
District Immunisation Officer Dr Mangboi Haokip urged parents to bring all children aged 0-59 months to the polio booths, regardless of their previous vaccination status.
Kangpokpi district has set a target of vaccinating 15,556 children through 154 booths, supported by 31 supervisors and 616 vaccinators.
During the launch, polio drops were administered to children and ORS packets and Zinc tablets were distributed to parents.
SENAPATI
In Senapati, the National Immunisation Day (NID) Pulse Polio Programme was launched at Traffic Point.
District Headquarters, by Deputy Commissioner Dharun Kumar, in the presence of Chief Medical Officer Dr Sumpi Percy and Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Senapati Dr Helen Shimray.

Senapati.
Dr Percy informed that the Pulse Polio initiative was launched nationwide under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.
Government of India, with the goal of eradicating poliomyelitis by administering two drops of polio vaccine to every child below five years.
The CMO informed that house-to-house search and vaccination activities will be conducted on June 29 and 30 to cover children who missed vaccination on the booth day.
Deputy Commissioner Dharun Kumar said polio is a preventable disease and India has achieved polio-free status through continuous immunisation efforts.
However, he cautioned that children remain vulnerable without proper protection and urged health workers to ensure complete coverage in all villages of the district.
The first dose of polio drops was administered to the first beneficiary, Baby Vane, by the Deputy Commissioner, followed by doses given by the CMO and Medical Superintendent.
Health authorities across the districts appealed to parents and guardians to cooperate with health workers and ensure that every eligible child receives the life-saving polio vaccine.
