Kangpokpi, April 21 2026 :
The Hengbung Village Authority, Kangpokpi, has strongly condemned the alleged misconduct of volunteers of the United Naga Council (UNC), accusing them of forcibly dragging a woman vendor out of her shop during the ongoing shutdown.
In a statement, the village authority described the incident, which reportedly took place on April 21 at Hengbung village, as abhorrent and a direct defiance of Kuki customs and traditions.
The authority referred to an earlier call issued on April 19 by UNC leadership from Tahamzam in Senapati district, announcing a total shutdown across Naga-inhabited areas along with a suspension of social and economic ties with the Kuki community.
Raising serious concern, the village authority alleged that a woman running a shop within the village was "manhandled and forcibly dragged out," terming the act violent, unjustified and deeply condemnable.
The authority urged the leadership of the UNC to take appropriate action against those involved, calling for punishment of the volunteers in accordance with Kuki customary law.
Emphasising the need for a peaceful coexistence, the village authority appealed to all concerned to prioritise resolving the issue at the earliest to prevent any further escalation or untoward incidents in the future.
