Arson attack destroys banana farms in Makuilongdi, affected farmers seek compensation from Govt

Senapati, March 20 2025:
An unknown group of miscreants set fire in the forest of Makuilongdi Part-3 belonging to the Inpui tribe, resulting in extensive damage and significant financial loss for the farmers.
The incident reportedly occurred on March 15, 2025 afternoon.
The devastating fire destroyed 12 banana farms belonging to local farmers who rely solely on their farms for livelihood, Achun Inkah, village secretary of Makuilongdi Part-3 said.
The estimated cost of damage was stated to be approximately Rs.26 lakhs.
However, no human casualty was reported fortunately but, the affected farmers' livelihood have been severely impacted, the village secretary further mentioned.
The local authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
Efforts are being made to identify the perpetrators and determine the motive behind the attack, villagers said.
The affected farmers are in need of immediate assistance.
Local organizations and authorities are working together to provide relief and support to help them.
The villagers urged the Government to take immediate action to provide financial compensation to the affected farmers to cover the losses incurred (approximately Rs 26 lakhs), to offer subsidies and support the farmers to rebuild and restart their farming activities, to ensure that necessary measures are taken to prevent such incidents in the future, including increased security and surveillance for farms and agricultural land.
The villagers also appeal to the public to come forward with any constructive information that may aid in the investigation.
