Bishnupur/Imphal/Jiribam/Thoubal, April 07 2026:
Strong condemnation continues to pour in from political and civil society organisations across Manipur over the deadly bomb attack at Tronglaobi Awang Leikai in Bishnupur district, which claimed the lives of two minor children and left their mother seriously injured.
The Communist Party of India, Moirang Local Council, in a press release termed the incident as "barbaric and inhuman", and held both the Central and State governments responsible for what it described as a continued failure to end the ethnic violence in Manipur, now approaching two years.
The CPI Moirang Local Council stated that the persistent loss of innocent lives and repeated incidents of violence clearly reflect the "incompetence" of the authorities in restoring peace and security in the State.
Calling for urgent action, the CPI Moirang Council urged the government to take decisive and long-term measures to control militant groups currently under Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreements.
It stressed that immediate steps must be taken to ensure the safety of civilians and restore normalcy in the State.
The council further asserted that the government must demonstrate its commitment through concrete action, stating that failure to do so would undermine the very purpose of governance.
Meanwhile, the COCOMI Women's Wing, Jiribam Branch has also expressed deep anguish over the killing of the two children and the critical injury of their mother.
The group further condemned the subsequent deaths of three civilians, allegedly following firing by personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) during a confrontation with aggrieved locals.
Speaking to reporters, coconvenor Ph Shantibala Devi said the incident was particularly distressing at a time when people had begun to hope for a return of peace.
She urged authorities to strengthen security measures in Jiribam to prevent similar occurrences and appealed to the public not to allow external influences to disturb the fragile peace in the district.
The Village Volunteers Force (VVF), GHQ Manipur, also condemned the bomb attack, alleging that subsequent firing by central forces on protesting civilians led to further casualties.
The group warned that if security forces fail to protect the public, local communities may be compelled to take responsibility for their own safety.
Condemnations also came from the New Era Kumbi Welfare Association, Imphal, Apunba Meira Paibi Lup, Nongpok Sekmai, Lilong United Club, and Manipurgi Ngamkhei Kanba Lup, denouncing the killing of innocent civilians and called for immediate action against those responsible.
