Imphal, July 02 2025:
While Wangkhei Main Road has long suffered deterioration despite repeated repairs due to neglect in maintenance, sub par construction quality, and insufficient drainage, it is now undergoing repairs under the Public Works Department (PWD).
The road is a vital artery connecting key Imphal East residential areas like Konung Mamang, Wangkhei, and Kongba Kshetri Leikai.
Previously, efforts by authorities to fix the road and drainage were deemed superficial by residents, as potholes and bumps persisted, disrupting traffic and creating unsafe conditions.
Now, visible transformation is being made, improving the road condition.
Under the direct supervision of the PWD, substantial repair work of the main road has been undertaken.
Quality construction can be expected as the PWD has emphasized adherence to proper construction standards throughout the project.
Eliminating all the dangerous potholes, uneven bumps that defined the road for so long, and upgrading the road with new pavements are the expected goals of the project which is still undergoing progress.
While relief and appreciation are widespread, residents and commuters stress the critical importance of sustained, high-quality maintenance moving forward.
"The real test will be how this road holds up after the next monsoon and over the coming years" said one resident.
A shop owner expressed, "It has been a constant battle with potholes and unsafe conditions, especially during the rains.
We reported but only got temporary patches.
Now, this repair by PWD feels substantial", while showing how genuinely grateful they are that the problem is being addressed.
The community's appreciation for the PWD's effective intervention is clear, but their call for consistent maintenance serves as an important reminder to safeguard this essential asset for the future.
Proper upkeep of such an important road like the Wangkhei Main Road shouldn't be just an expense but an investment in safety, connectivity, and the community's well-being, said the local people.
