Imphal, June 28 2025:
Ex-Chief Minister N Biren has stated that the Central Government has been working hard to bring end to the two more than two years old crisis, resettle IDPs living in relief camps at their homes and open National Highways.
The ex-CM was speaking at the release function of a book titled Emergency Diary held at the office of BJP Manipur Pradesh at Nityaipat Chuthek here today.
He claimed that the Union Home Minister has been working day and night to resettle all displaced people at their homes and ensure free movement on National Highways.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi too has been working to restore peace in Manipur.
Saying that he expects certain positive developments from the Central Government, the ex-Chief Minister appealed to all the people to bear with the difficulties until that time.
On the declaration of National Emergency across the country in 1975, N Biren said that over 10 people from Manipur were imprisoned for around two years during the Emergency and it is a matter of pride for the State.
"By declaring Emergency, democracy was totally curtailed across the country.
I salute those people who took an active role in the movement for restoring democracy and faced prolonged imprisonment", Biren said.
"I feel like paying obeisance to those leaders of Jana Sangh who fought bravely against the imposition of Emergency in the country", he said.
Biren said that he is proud of BJP leaders like Syama Prasad Mukherjee who strongly advocated scrapping of Article 370 and raised vehement objection against Jammu & Kashmir having two flags.
Now Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been building houses for the homeless and distributing rice free of cost to the poor, Biren claimed.
Syama Prasad Mukherjee's efforts to scrap Article 370 have been fulfilled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the ex-CM continued.
Maintaining that truth cannot be established without first correcting the past mistakes, he said that a clean and upright generation can be groomed only after the past mistakes and corruptions are corrected.
Had the permit system which was in force in Manipur in the past been not abolished, there would not have been any casualty nor mass movement for re-introduction of Inner Line Permit System in Manipur, he lamented.
Had the MLR&LR Act 1960 which drew a line between the hills and the valley been not implemented, the polarisation seen today would not have surfaced, Biren said.
He then asked whether there would have been any petitions at the Supreme Court against the killing of over 1200 people in fake encounters had AFSPA been replaced with a more humane law.
The unrest and turmoil seen today in Manipur are results of the efforts to correct these past mistakes and blunders, Biren said.
BJP started correcting the past mistakes from 2018 and a Cabinet Sub-Committee started identifying immigrants.
After identifying all the 32/33 tribes which inhabit Manipur, houses which signify their identities were installed at Sangai Ethnic Park, he said.
He went on to claim that BJP does not do the dirty politics of harbouring illegal immigrants and using them as vote banks.
