400 cases detected during 'end-TB' campaign

A state-level event of the 44th World Tuberculosis (TB) Day was observed at the Durbar Hall of Raj Bhavan, here, on Thursday during which Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla disclosed that 400 new TB cases were detected during the course of the 100-Day TB Elimination Campaign.
The World TB Day observance this year held under the theme, 'Yes We Can End TB: Commit, Invest, Deliver', featured a series of initiatives aimed at reinforcing the commitment to eradicating TB.
The event included the distribution of certificates of appreciation and food baskets by Nikshay Mitras, as well as the presentation of the Kayakalp Awards.
Governor Bhalla also conferred certificates of proficiency to the IRL Laboratory and distributed prizes to winners of a painting competition held in connection with the observance.

A short film on TB elimination was screened, and a testimonial from a recovered TB patient was shared, emphasising the significance of early diagnosis and treatment.
In his address as the chief guest, Governor Bhalla acknowledged the persistent challenge that tuberculosis poses both in India and globally.
He underscored the devastating impact of the disease on individuals, families, and communities and reaffirmed the nation's commitment to achieving TB elimination by 2025, aligning with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi under the TB-Mukt Bharat initiative Speaking on the 100-Day TB Elimination Campaign, the Governor highlighted its successful implementation across six districts in Manipur since December 7, 2024.The campaign resulted in the screening of around one lakh individuals, leading to the identification of over 400 new TB cases, he informed, noting that door-to-door testing using mobile units, known as 'Nikshay Vahan,' facilitated early diagnosis and treatment, particularly in remote areas.
Under the Nikshay Mitra initiative, individuals and organisations have pledged support to TB patients through nutritional assistance, he said.
Governor Bhalla reiterated the government's unwavering commitment to eliminating TB within the stipulated timeframe, emphasising that all-out efforts are being made to achieve the goal.
He urged the public to strengthen their resolve in combating TB, ensuring a future free from the disease, and also lauded healthcare professionals, administrators, and support staff for their instrumental role in the successful implementation of the Kayakalp programme.
Commissioner-cum-secretary (health) Sumant Singh, also addressed the gathering, highlighting Manipur's commendable performance in the 100-Day TB Elimination Campaign at the national level.
He underscored the state's dedication to eradicating TB and noted the advancements in medical technology, particularly Nucleic Acid Amplification Testing (NAAT), which has enhanced the accuracy of TB detection.
Sumant expressed optimism that sustained community participation would further propel the success of the TB elimination campaign.
