Thokchom Lokeshore elected Speaker

Thokchom Lokeshore elected from Khundrakpam AC on an INC ticket has been elected as the Speaker of the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly.
Protem Speaker L Nandakumar formally announced in the State Assembly Hall located at Chingmeirong this morning that Th Lokeshore has been elected the Speaker by both the ruling and Opposition MLAs unanimously.
Soon after the announcement, House leader O Ibobi and Opposition leader Dr I Ibohalbi guided the newly elected Speaker to his seat.
Election of Lokeshore to the Speaker's post was supported by 34 MLAs belonging to both ruling and Opposition bench by raising motions and second motions.
Th Lokeshore born at Sagolmang on April 13, 1967 is MA (History), First Class.
Lokeshore who grew up as a social worker was elected to the 9th Manipur State Assembly in a bye-election.

Congratulating Lokeshore on his election as the Speaker, Chief Minister O Ibobi conveyed gratitude to both the ruling MLAs and Opposition MLAs for their unanimous support to Lokeshore.
He also exuded that the Speaker that the Speaker would discharge his duty in truthful and fair manner.
Lokeshore was also congratulated by many other House members including Dr I Ibohalbi and Abdul Nasir who was elected from Lilong AC.
On his part, Speaker Lokeshore sought cooperation from all the House Members so that he can discharge his duties without any partiality.
