Imphal, December 13 2023: Four former MLAs led by senior politician O Joy Singh called on Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan today and urged her to initiate a peace process to end the present crisis.During the meeting, former MLAs, O Joy, RK Anand Singh, E Chand Singh and P Sharatchandra Singh submitted a memorandum to the Governor urging her to take up steps to stop all forms of violence, said PRO Raj Bhavan in a statement.

Appreciating the Governor for her efforts, they said that the people of the State believe that she will initiate a dialogue process with the two communities to bring about a durable solution to the ongoing conflict.

The Centre should solve the unrest through democratic means, they said, requesting the Governor to urge the Prime Minister to take steps for bringing back peace as a gift of the coming New Year.

The former MLAs further urged the Governor to take steps to implement the National Register of Citizens (NRC) with the base year as 1951 .

They urged the Governor to review the Suspension of Operation (SoO) Agreement with Chin-Kuki armed groups, ensure free and safe movement of people and goods on the National Highways, conduct elections to the Autonomous District Councils and other local self Government institutions and create a Legislative Council of Manipur.

The former MLAs also urged the Governor for the Centre and the State Government to ensure that a white paper on Manipur's integrity is placed and discussed in the current session of the Parliament.

Welcoming the suggestions made by the former MLAs, Governor Anusuiya Uikey said the Centre is taking the issues seriously and discussions are on with various stakeholders including leaders of CSOs.

She said, the suggestions put up from different sections are noted and sent to the Centre from time to time.

The Governor informed the former MLAs that she is in touch with the Prime Minister and the Home Minister, and said she will place the suggestions before the Prime Minister when she meets him in New Delhi.

She asked the former MLAs to assist in efforts being taken up to bring peace and normalcy.

Ramesh Sharma, National Coordinator, Ekta Parishad along with Aribam Rishikanta Sharma, State Coordinator of the Parishad also called on the Governor at Raj Bhavan today.

They apprised the Governor of the various activities taken up by the Parishad in extending assistance to the internally displaced people in relief camps in the hills and valley.

They said the Ekta Parishad will continue extending aid and support to the violence affected people.

The Parishad will further distribute baby foods and blankets etc in relief camps, they said.

They further informed the Governor that a team of doctors from Chhattisgarh will visit Manipur in January next year.

Governor Anusuiya Uikey appreciated the Parishad and asked them to visit relief camps both in the hills and in the valley and enquire about the requirements of the people.

She informed that the administration is also trying its best to deliver the requirements of people in the relief camps.

Stating that giving mental support to the displaced people is equally important, the Governor asked the team to arrange counselling sessions for people at the relief camps.
