The Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee of Manipur (STDCM) has suggested several measures to fight the pandemic, which is taking a toll on the people in the State and elsewhere effectively.
In a statement, the STDCM said that the Government should arrange free treatment for Covid patients as the pandemic induced restrictions have shut people indoors with no source of earning.
The committee also expressed desire for the State Government to pay special attention to the poor and daily wage earners.
Meals for the inmates at Covid Care Centres in the first wave were arranged by the Government, however, the same is not so in the second wave, said the STDCM and urged the Government to arrange meals for the inmates to alleviate the hardships of Covid patients and their respective families.
Recently the Union Health Ministry sent a letter to RIMS Director to rope in Assistant and Associate Professors of the institute for Covid treatment, the STDCM said and asked if the direction of the Health Ministry has been implemented or not.
The committee also lauded the State Government, health experts, local clubs and others who are extending all possible help to tackle the pandemic and urged all to obey the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for COVID-19 laid down by the Government.
The STDCM, on the other hand, urged the Government to send a recommendation for granting ST status to Meitei/Meetei once the situation improves.
