Imphal, June 05 2025:
Stranded vehicles have started moving on NH-2 (Imphal-Dimapur highway) after the Manipur Drivers' Association (MDA) repaired a bypass with the help of other transport organisations/unions.
Earlier, NH-2 was cut off after a sizable section of the highway sank at Phesama, Nagaland.
Speaking to media persons at their Kwakeithel office today, MDA general secretary Sanjoy Kshetrimayum said that empty trucks which were stranded on either side of the sunken section have started moving.
Moreover, more than 70 loaded trucks have also started moving to their respective destinations, Sanjoy said.
Together with Senapati District Truck Owners Association, Senapati District Truck Drivers Union and Manipur Gorkha Motor Workers Welfare Association, MDA started repairing the bypass from yesterday, he said.
He said that the bypass passes through Kohima and Kigwema before it joins NH-2 at a place in between Mao and Tadubi.
The bypass extends 20 Kms inside Nagaland and another 25 Kms within Manipur, he said.
The MDA general secretary also conveyed gratitude to people living along the bypass for their cooperation.
He also appealed to all traders/shopkeepers not to hoard or hike prices of essential commodities when a large number of people in Imphal East and Senapati districts have been reeling under devastating impacts of flood.
Saying that it is the duty of CAF&PD Department to check price hike, he, nonetheless, appealed to CSOs to check prices of all essential commodities.
Sanjoy assured that MDA would extend all possible help in retrieving the truck which was buried by landslide at Phesama.
Saying that he was shocked on learning about the incident where an oil tanker truck plunged into a gorge in between Kambiron and Barak along NH 37 on Wednesday, Sanjoy expressed relief over the fact that the driver did not suffer any grievous injury.
