Imphal, September 02 2025:
The people of Churachandpur are suffering shortages of essential supplies and hunger, but the National Highway-2 must remain shut for it will serve the Meiteis, the Zomi Council has said in a statement today.
The idea of "free movement" is neither desirable not realistic.
In fact, the shutting down of the Imphal-Dimapur Highway has benefited the people of Churachandpur with PDS items reaching the district via Mizoram, the Zomi Council claimed while issuing a stem warning to the Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) to not sign any MoU against the interests of "our people".
"Our sacrifices are not to be traded off by some dissident self seeking nincompoops adept at falsification," it said.
It would be betrayal if the KZC or any other body signs an MoU that would not safeguard the interests of "our people".
"We cannot endorse such idea of agreement as it would abandon the very community we represent," it said.
The reopening of the NH-2 (Dimapur-Imphal road) is "not for us".
It is a move designed solely to serve the majoritarian Meitei community, while the people of Churachandpur continue to suffer shortages, hunger and unending sacrifices, claimed the Zomi Council.
"The truth is NH-2 remains choked by illegal taxation/extortion, manned by anti-social elements both inside Nagaland and along the highway upto Imphal.
Unless the Government dismantles these gangs of licensed extortionists, reopening the Highway is promotion of exploitation," it said.
"We demand immediate and honest action to dismantle every illegal tax point maintained by anti-social elements along NH-2, guarantee fair and transparent distribution of supplies and engage only with representatives who cany the true mandate of our people.
Our sacrifices are not to be traded off by some dissident self seeking nincompoops.
Our voices cannot be muffled," said the Zomi Council.
The KZC must stop indulging in activities that do not serve the people.
They must be reminded that the "so-called VIP treatment" they enjoy is undue but an award for being puppets of the Govt, said the Zomi Council.
