MSCW organises legal awareness programme at Heirok

A one-day legal awareness programme aimed at promoting women's rights, legal literacy and awareness on redressal mechanisms was successfully organised on Monday at Thokchom Leikai Community Hall, Heirok Part-II .
The programme was jointly organised by the Manipur State Commission for Women and Ekop Ningthou VLF.
The event was attended by Chairperson of MSCW Th Tiningpham Monsang, MSCW Member SK Sophia, Member Secretary of MSCW and Additional Director (IPR) W Phajatombi Devi.
District Coordinator SISD Thoubal District MSRLM Umesh Yanglem and Block Mission Manager of Wangjing Tentha CD Block MSRLM Sarungbam Ronel as presidium members.

Delivering the keynote address, W Phajatombi Devi welcomed the gathering and stressed the importance of legal awareness in empowering women.
She highlighted the role and functions of the MSCW in safeguarding the rights and dignity of women and promoting gender equality through awareness programmes, counselling, legal support and community outreach initiatives across the State.
Addressing the gathering, Th Tiningpham Monsang described legal awareness as an important tool for women's empowerment and encouraged women to become aware of their constitutional and legal rights.
She stated that awareness builds confidence and enables women to speak up against injustice and participate actively in society.
Umesh Yanglem also addressed the gathering and stressed the need for active community participation in promoting women's welfare and justice.
During the technical session, Advocate Thiyam Rajkishore delivered a presentation on "Women & Laws: Redressal Mechanism," highlighting various legal provisions and remedies available to women facing domestic violence, harassment, discrimination and other forms of injustice.
He emphasised the importance of legal awareness and encouraged women to seek timely legal assistance and make use of institutional support systems.
Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defence Counsel Kh Lucy Jacky spoke on the topic "Legal Literacy of Women" and stressed that awareness of legal rights empowers women to seek justice and protect themselves from discrimination, violence and exploitation.
More than 140 women, including community members, local leaders, women representatives, Self Help Groups and Village Level Federations (VLFs), attended the programme.
