World Anthropology Day observed widely

The Department of Anthropology, Manipur , University, Canchipur, marked World Anthropology Day today with a comprehensive outreach programme aimed at extending academic knowledge and practical experience to the local community, specifically school children.
The theme for this year's observation was "Reaching the Unreached Through Anthropology".
The core activities took place at SI School, Canchipur, Langthabal Heinou Makhong.
The day's events commenced with a formal inaugural programme held at the Department of Anthropology's Conference Hall.
Faculty members, including Prof S Jibonkumar Singh, Dean, School of Human & Environmental Sciences, and Prof M C Arunkumar, Head of the Department, delivered inaugural addresses.
MSc students, Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health (PGDPH) candidates, and PhD research scholars were briefed on the significance of the day and the procedures for conducting the outreach activities.
Outreach activities at SI School included cultural exhibitions showcasing Manipur's ethnic diversity; health check-ups; demonstrations on forensic anthropology, prehistoric tools, and ancient cultures; and awareness sessions on air pollution, handwashing, rabies vaccination, and anxiety management.
Student representatives at the school assembly hall praised the insights, while Principal Sarangthem Chaoba Singh thanked MU and welcomed future collaborations.
DM University
The Department of Anthropology, Dhanamanjuri University (DMU) also celebrated World Anthropology Day at DM College of Science's Central Hall on the theme, "Towards Integration and Sustainability" .
The event was graced by dignitaries, including Prof W Chandbabu, Vice-Chancellor, DMU; Prof H Sorojini, Director, College Development Council (CDC); and Prof Ksh Birbal, Principal, DM College of Science.
Highlights included an exhibition on "Prehistoric Stone Tools, Material Culture, and Dying Traditions" opened by Prof Chandbabu, and a visual presentation on "Dying traditions of Manipur" .
Students engaged through exhibition stalls, poster campaigns, and a slogan competition, driving home the anthropology connection.
Prof Thiyam Rabikanta, Head, Anthropology Dept, was also present at the event.
