Women vendors storm at IMC office

Imphal, December 14 2010: Women vendors of Khwairamband Nupi Keithel Sinpham amadi Saktam Kanba Lup and Khwairamband Nupi Keithel Semgat Sagatpa Lup stormed into the office of Imphal Municipal Council demanding the IMC officials to declare the duplicate licenses recovered so far and suspend the officials involved in issuing the duplicate license to the vendors.

Some women went into the office of Special Administrator of IMC Geetkumar to discuss their matter.

After sometime the women came out of the office and began stoning to the office of IMC.

However the angry women were persuaded by some women who came with them.

According to K Pakpi of Khwairamband Nupi Keithel Sinpham amadi Saktam Kanba Lup, the issue came up after the some women came with old licenses which were renewed by the IMC.

Instead of destroying the old cards after renewing, some persons mortgage the old cards.

The matter boiled up when some women came to the new market shed with the mortgaged cards.

It is not known that who mortgage the old cards.

The women vendors appealed the concern authority and the state government to investigate the matter and bring a solution.

The state Chief Minister will discuss the issue with IMC officials and representatives of women vendors tomorrow, she said.
