Speaking to media-persons on the sidelines of the protest demonstration, chairman of Northern Transport Joint Action Committee (Imphal to Senapati, Kangpokpi and Motbung) A Thaninjao said that the incident that took place on the night of December 7 in which an unarmed person travelling in a passenger bus from Sena-pati to Imphal was killed by some unidentified armed persons deserve strong condemnation.
But then arrest of the innocent driver of the bus and the conductor over the same incident is also equally condemnable.
Demanding that the innocent bus driver and the conductor, who have been taken into custody by Sekmai police, be released immediately, he alleged that the bus driver and the conductor were tortured on the pretext of interrogation by the security personnel who come to the Sekmai police station every day.
As a consequence, they have been shifted from Sekmai PS to Imphal West PS, he informed, while identifying the arrested bus driver as Sanathoi alias Narendra of Motbung Khunou and the conductor as Premjit of Kakching Khu-nou.
The chairman further alleged that the owner of the bus is also being threatened by security personnel over the phone.
Placards inscribed with slogans like 'We condemn killing of unarmed people', 'Release arrested driver, conductor at once', 'We oppose lodging case against innocent driver and conductor', etc were seen at the protest site.
