Protesting the abduction of Dr Wangkhem Nabachandra by unidentified armed persons and calling upon all concerned not to disrupt the public health delivery system, a large number of womenfolk staged a Wakat Meepham in front of Leima-pokpam Primary Health Centre (PHC) today.
A resident of Malom Tulihal Makha Leikai, Dr Nabachandra, who is a AYUSH doctor in the said health centre, was abducted by some uniden- tified armed persons while he was looking after some patients in the morning of December 13.Later, he was rescued by Bishnupur Police Commandos from Mutum Yangbi Shantipur Mamang Pat.
Along with the staff of the PHC, womenfolk from 10 different localities of the nearby area participated in the protest demonstration.
They also used placards with slogans like 'We condemn abduction of doctor', 'Stop abduction for ransom at once', 'We want peace', etc during the demonstration.
Meanwhile, a meeting of the All Manipur AYUSH Doctors' Association held at the conference hall of Family Welfare Department today has strongly condemned the abduction of Dr Nabachandra and appealed to all concerned not to subject the AYUSH doctors and other health staff to any threat and intimidation in
the future.
