Manipur Pollution Control Board today organised a one-day awareness programme on 'Bio-medical Waste Management and Handling' at Shija Hospital and Research Institute.
Chairman of the Manipur Pollution Control Board, MLA E Dwijamani graced the opening function of the programme as chief guest which was presided by managing director of the host institute, Dr Kh Palin.
Forest and environment commissioner Dr Sureshbabu, JNIMS director Dr Th Biren and managing director of Babina Diagnostic Centre Dr Daballi attended as guests of honour.
In his speech as chief guest, MLA Dwijamani observed that even though authorities of the healthcare centres well understand the importance of the disposal of bio-medical waste, relatives and families of patients are still unaware of this.
Hence, doctors and medical staff of these centres need to make them understand of the need of disposal of the wastes and the different ways of disposal.
He also reminded that without participation of the people, pollution control will not be possible.
People must know that everybody should take part in the measures taken up by the government and NGOs working in the field to control pollution.
Dr Pallin, in his presidential address of the function asserted that there is a great role to be taken by the doctors in the disposal of bio-medical waste products.
In the technical session of the programme, resource persons Dr L Khomdon, Dr Y Gopalkrishna, Anju Oinam, Dr A Vivekananda and Dr Kh Pallin talked on various topics related with the management of bio-medical wastes.
