Imphal, February 12, 2011:
Petrol scarcity has been rid off but artificial scarcity of diesel still haunts the people.
Petrol is being distributed in almost all retail outlets, however, diesel consumers are facing non-availability of the fuel till date.
On investigation, the fuel was found siphoned off from oil tankers into private barrels for sale in the black market.
On enquiry an authority of an outlet said, there was no stock for open sale.
On the other hand, an official from the IOC Imphal said, 12 to 18 KL of diesel was distributed to the retail outlets yesterday.
An official team of the Indian Oil Corporation recently visited the state in consultation with state officials to take up various measures to ensure availability of petroleum products in the state.
They also formed a Civil Supply Inspection (CSI) team to look into the distribution of petroleum products.
The SPF government had also announced that stringent action will be taken up to those indulged in black market of these products.
It seems that the CSI team is only for namesake, and many have asked whether vested interests have egged the government on it.
