Thoubal, May 10 2026:
A State-Level Convention on the ongoing conflict in Manipur and ways to restore peace in the State was held on Sunday at Khongjom Bazar Community Hall.
The convention was jointly organised by the High Power Committee KCDC and Fatherland Patriots' Memorial Club (FPMC) .
Former Law Minister and veteran politician O Joy Singh, retired professor AK Manglemjao and social scientist Dr Dhanabir Laishram attended the programme as presidium members.
During the convention, the gathering strongly condemned the recent bomb attack at Tronglaobi that claimed the lives of two children and the alleged killing of three civilians by CRPF personnel, describing the incidents as among the gravest tragedies in the history of Manipur.
A two-minute silence was observed in honour of the deceased and in solidarity with the bereaved families.
Speaking at the event, High Power Committee KCDC convenor Dr Sagolsem Ibochoubi Singh said the convention was organised to deliberate on the worsening situation in Manipur and explore ways to restore peace and normalcy in the State.
He stated that the prevailing violence has severely affected every sector and stressed the need for collective understanding through discussions involving experts and prominent personalities.
Dr Ibochoubi further said that the State now needs leaders who are willing to work honestly and make sacrifices for the welfare of the people.
He also stressed that commitments made to the public should be assured in written form.
Addressing the gathering, veteran politician O Joy Singh said that although Manipur remains constitutionally a unified State, the present situation has virtually divided it into three parts.
He attributed the crisis to failures on the part of the Government and urged the people to remain cautious and united.
He further remarked that in a democratic country, public anger and criticism directed towards leaders indicate that the State has reached a critical stage.
Stating that the responsibility to save the State and bring positive change lies with the people, O Joy Singh called upon the people of Manipur to awaken and act collectively, adding that much time has already been lost.
