Imp/Tbl/Moirang, June 30 2023: Peeved over the inability of the Centre and the State Government to contain the violence in Manipur, effigies of several BJP leaders were burnt at Singjamei and Thoubal, today.

According to our Moirang correspondent, effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Minister N Biren Singh and BJP State unit president A Sarda were also burnt at Moirang Lamkhai today.

While burning the effigies, the protesters raised slogans against the BJP Government and to abolish the saffron party from Manipur.

Not satisfied with the way in which the BJP Governments at the Centre and the State have been dealing with the crisis in Manipur, effigies of the Prime Minister , the Union Home Minister, N Biren Singh, MAHUD Minister Y Khemchand and BJP, State unit president A Sarda were also incinerated at Singjamei Chingamakha while staging a sit-in protest today.

The protest was jointly organised by womenfolk of Chingamakha Ningthoujam Leikai, Yanglem Leikai and Meisnam Leikai.

During the protest demonstration, effigies of the Central and State BJP leaders were burnt and many slogans raised to show their anger against the way in which the situation has been unfolding in Manipur despite the deployment of large companies of Central security forces.

Talking to media persons, one of the protesters said that the issue in Manipur is not a Meitei-Kuki clash as depicted and the Government is well aware of it.

The violence in Manipur spiralled out of control as Kuki militants along with illegal immigrants started attacking Meitei villages after the tribal solidarity march of ATSUM, she said.

Saying that they will never accept the separate administration call being raised by 10 Chin-Kuki MLAs, she demanded that any attempt which challenges the integrity and unity of Manipur should be dealt with appropriately.

Further stating that Chief Minister N Biren Singh thinking of resigning while Manipur is in complete disorder is an act of cowardice, she said that the Chief Minister should be with the people during this tough period if he is bold enough to protect Manipur.

Vendors of Thoubal Keithel along with womenfolk of four localities of Thoubal also burnt the effigies of Narendra Modi, Amit Shah and N Biren Singh near Thoubal Bridge today.

The demonstrators raised several slogans while burning the effigies to protect the State's unity and integrity and against the conduct of Kuki militants and Assam Rifles.

Due to the protest demonstration, traffic movements along the route were hindered for a brief period.

Meanwhile last night, a large number of people burnt the effigies of the Chief Minister and the BJP State unit president at the junction of Charangpat and Nepra Leirak in Thoubal stating that they no longer trust the BJP Government.

The protesters shouted slogans which demanded that Manipur should never be disintegrated nor there should be separate administration in Manipur.

They also said that they don't have faith in the N Biren led BJP Government in Manipur and the Centre as there is no let up in Kuki militants' attack on Meiteis.

By the sideline of the demonstration, one Kharibam Bina said that the Chief Minister undermining the movement of meira paibi who have been spending many sleepless nights on streets to protect lives and properties is unfortunate.

Saying that the Chief Minister has proven his incompetency as he can't even unite the 40 valley MLAs when the Meiteis are put under tremendous pressure, she said that the people might start taking action against all the 40 MLAs.

Another protester Laitonjam Tampharei asked whether N Biren hasn't apprised the true picture of Manipur violence to Central leaders as commitment of the Centre to restore normalcy is yet to be seen.

Can the situation in Manipur be called peaceful, she said and asked whether the Chief Minister takes the people of Manipur especially womenfolk as some loyal pets who would not question him as long as they are given some freebies.

She then said that they have completely lost their faith in the leadership of N Biren Singh.
