Lamka, July 28 2010:
The newly formed Committee on Protection of Tribal Areas in Manipur (COPTAM) has called a 12-hour hill districts bandh with effect from 6 am of July 29 insisting the three points demand they have presented before the Chief Minister yesterday be fulfilled.
COPTAM Chairman Letpu Haokip said, "We will exclude a few essential services, but the remaining has to bear with us" .
COPTAM, an offshoot of a recent consultative meeting of the hill tribes in Imphal, yesterday petitioned the Chief Minister in a memorandum to immediately declare null-and-void those data collected from the overlapping villages that were enumerated by officials from outside the hill districts.
The Director of census operation had issued census village code as well as enumerator block numbers in each of the hill district administrations in time, yet, officials from valley district are found collecting data from some parts of the hill districts, it alleged and questioned the circumstances of officially permitting double entry.
