Imphal, April 25 2026:
Women from diverse communities staged back-to-back protests across Manipur today and earlier this week, voicing fierce condemnation of recent violence that has shattered lives and stability in the State.
In a powerful sit-in at Laipharok Maring village along the Imphal-Yairipok road, hundreds of women from the Maring community gathered under the banner of the North Maring Women Organisation (NMWO) .
Representing four villages in the Keirao Assembly Constituency- Laipharok, Sandang Semba, Taorenphai, and Phunal Maring- they protested the killing of two Tangkhul individuals at TM Kasom in Ukhrul district and a deadly bomb blast in Tronglaobi, Bishnupur district, on April 7 night that claimed the lives of two infants and injured their mother.
NMWO president Kh Shanti, speaking on the sidelines, lambasted the unrest for eroding the State's stability.
"Children can't attend classes amid this chaos, schools are disrupted, and daily wage earners are suffering from frequent shutdowns", she said.
Shanti linked the turmoil to public outrage over unaddressed justice, urging the Government to identify and arrest the terrorists, impose strict legal action, and restore peace.
"We want to live in peace", she declared, capturing the protesters' unified cry.
Echoing this sentiment, a mass demonstration unfolded on Thursday at New Keithelmanbi in Imphal West, jointly organised by the New Keithelmanbi Ema Meira Paibi and United Youth Club.
Under the aegis of groups like AMUCO, AMAWOVA, MSF, COHR, and Poirei Leimarol, participants from various communities denounced the TM Kasom killings - allegedly by SoO and non-SoO militants - and the Tronglaobi bomb attack.
Protestors expressed deep resentment against these "terrorist-like activities", demanding immediate, stringent Government action to safeguard lives, property, and public safety.
Their unified call for justice highlighted a growing chorus across Manipur for an end to the violence gripping the region.
