Floral tributes paid to victims of Heirok Thabal incident

Thoubal, March 24 2025: The RPN Memorial Trust today observed 17th "Mangai Piba Numit" at Ningsing Sanglen, Heirok Part II Umang Laikol to commemorate the death anniversary of Thokchom Romesh, Thokchom Promila and Laishram Nirmala who were killed when unknown person's fired upon a crowd during the Yaoshang Thabal on March 24, 2008 .

At the event, the bereaved families and people paid floral tributes to the memorial stone of the three victims and observed a two-minute silence in honour of the departed soul.

Addressing the media persons, RPN Memorial Trust publicity secretary, L Megha stated that "Mangal Piba Numit" have been observed annually in commemoration of the victims of Heirok accident.

He stated that the observance is held annually to instill the future generation on the changes the incident has brought in the scenario of Manipur and Heirok particularly by recruiting 300 SPOs who are still guarding Heirok, the formation of VDF in Manipur and the establishment of Heirok Higher Secondary School.

He continued that the incident also enlightened the society that war and violence only yields to pain and sufferings.
