Anti-drug awareness rally held in Kakching

Kakching, June 23 2026:
An anti-drug awareness rally was organised in Kakching district on Tuesday, as part of the observance of Nasha Mukt Bharat Saptah 2026, to spread awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
The rally was organised by the District Administration Kakching in collaboration with the District Social Welfare Office.
It was flagged off by Superintendent of Police (SP) Kakching, Priyadarshini Laishram, and ADM Kakching, Phurailatpam Bhavananda from the DC Office Complex, Kakching, and proceeded through Kakching Bazaar before returning to the starting point.
Around 800 participants, including district-level officers, school students, ASHA workers, personnel of Kakching District Police, VDF personnel, Anganwadi workers and others, took part in the rally.
Speaking on the occasion, SP Priyadarshini Laishram said that the rally, pledgetaking ceremony and signature campaign against drug abuse and illicit trafficking were organised as part of the observance leading up to the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26.She stated that drug abuse has emerged as a serious social menace and stressed that addressing the problem requires the collective responsibility and active participation of all sections of society.
She also urged the public, particularly the youths, to understand the dangers and long-term consequences of drug use and contribute towards making the War on Drugs campaign more effective.
ADM Kakching, Phurailatpam Bhavananda, said that as part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Saptah campaign being observed nationwide from June 17 to 26, the District Social Welfare Office, Kakching, under the District Administration Kakching has been conducting various programmes to sensitise the public about the ill effects on drug abuse and promote a drug-free society.
He further informed that a district-level painting competition would be held on June 26 as part of the observance.
As part of the programme, the Nasha Mukta Bharat Abhiyaan pledge was administered to the gathering by Phurailatpam Bhavananda.
A signature campaign against drug abuse and illicit trafficking was also launched at the DC Office Complex, with officials, staff and members of the public taking part in the initiative.
