Imphal, April 22 2026:
The Justice Committee on Anglo-Manipuri War 1891 Martyrs and Freedom Fighters of Kangleipak (Manipur), in collaboration with the Descendants of Anglo-Manipuri War 1891, organised a memorial observation today at Standard Robert Higher Secondary School.
The event was held to pay tribute to the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives in the Anglo-Manipuri War 1891.Speaking at the event, Justice Committee chairman Joychandra Konthoujam criticised the Slate's political representatives and questioned how long the Meitei community would be "sold" on the global stage.
Joychandra said Manipur faces a dual crisis: external threats from armed conflicts and border tensions, and internal threats from a drug war that is hollowing out society.
He flagged rising drug addiction and crime, noting that drug use among women is increasing, leading to broken families and a generation of leaderless youth.
"It is high time for our leaders to wake up and introspect.
If we allow petty internal divisions to cloud our judgment, we hand the advantage to the Central Government and external forces", he said.
He added that peace and development require all ethnic groups to work under a unified vision, urging the public to abandon narrow-minded thinking.
"If the current generation remains complacent, Manipur's future will be bleak", he warned.
The event was attended by Pheiroijam Landhoni, founder of Standard Robert Hr Sec School; Thokchom Jogendrajit, Assistant Director, Akashvani Imphal; Leitam Saratchandra, grandson of Major Leitam Mukta; and Longjam Ronendro, grandson of Longjam Poila.
The event concluded with a collective call for the people of Manipur to stand united to protect the State's history and secure its future.
