Consultation on 'Ground situation and conditions of women & girls with disabilities' held

The All Tribal Disabilities Union, Wheel Chair Basket Ball Association and Deaf Welfare Organisation, Manipur jointly organised "International Women's Day celebration cum Consultation on Ground Situation and Conditions of Women & Girls with Disabilities in Manipur" at Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul today.
The consultation programme was conducted under the sponsorship of Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW).
Speaking on the occasion, W Phajatombi Devi, Member Secretary, MSCW, emphasized that the Commission is ready to extend help in all possible ways, encouraging the disabled individuals not to become impeded with the heavy constraints from societal pressures and prejudiced mindset.
"Every human being is not perfect but rather living with some or other kind of disabilities, and each differently abled person has some or other uniqueness which stands out from the crowd", she added.
Taking examples of Paralympians, renowned writers and singers, W Phajatombi asserted that one needs to be morally strong enough and know one's own rights despite all kinds of hardships this society offers.
Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang, Chairperson, MSCW, also encouraged all the special-women not to remain idle inside the four walls of the house but rather seek more knowledge and opportunities.
Today's discussion was focused on the hardships faced by a differently abled person while going to police station, hospitals, etc.
The participants requested the Government to have a disabled friendly environment either in hospitals or in police stations.
They also urged the Government to employ proper interpreters in all departments to harness a friendly and cooperative environment while accommodating them.
Lourembam Dayabati Devi, Member, MSCW; T Chuongsin Koireng Member, MSCW; Sk Sophia Moyon, Member, MSCW and around fifty special-women were also present at the event.
