Bishnupur, July 18 2024:
MLA of Moirang Assembly Constituency Thongam Shanti inaugurated six houses built for the needy and deprived sections of the people from MLA Local Area Development Fund and handed it over to the respective owners.
Under the welfare initiative of the State Government to construct houses for the needy, 13 houses have been constructed under Moirang AC for the first phase.
Out of the 13 houses, six houses were inaugurated today.
Speaking at the occasion, the Moirang AC MLA said that it has been aimed to construct 20 houses in a year in the constituency under the aegis of the Government.
He informed that for the first phase, the construction of the 13 houses began at an estimated cost of Rs 2 lakhs each on a house.
In view of the prevailing conflict situation in the State, the MLA expressed that the people of Moirang AC have been impacted badly and continue to be in a difficult phase.
Furthermore the situation has worsened due to devastating hail storms and heavy floods in the past few months leaving the people especially those who belong from poor and humble households, in a more vulnerable situation, he said.
Acknowledging the pitiable condition of the poor and needy who are unable to construct a house on their own though they have lands, the State Government launched the initiative to construct houses for the selected beneficiaries, he said.
Stating that the inaugurated houses have been constructed solely from the funds of MLA Local Area Development Scheme, Thongam Shanti expressed firm belief that the construction of around 20-30 houses will be completed during his term.
The beneficiaries of this noble initiative have been selected by the members of local bodies after thorough review, he added.
The MLA also informed that money has been credited to more than 700 beneficiaries of Moirang AC in their respective accounts under Housing for All scheme and appealed to all the beneficiaries to put the money for the said purpose only.
Raising concern on the issues of criticizing one another on social media platforms and politicising the conflict situation in the State, the MLA appealed to all concerned to refrain from such activities and work collectively to overcome the prevailing crisis.
The houses which were inaugurated today were two houses at Naranseina, one house at Ngangkhalawai, two houses at Terakhongshangbi Leimaram Leirak and one house at Ahanthem Leikai under Moirang Municipal Council.
Further it has been informed that the remaining seven houses will be inaugurated soon.
