Imphal, April 07 2026:
The All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU), Salai ApunbaNupi Lamjing Lup (SANULAL) and the Committee on Human Rights (COHR), Manipur have strongly condemned the recent brutal murder of a displaced 7 year old minor girl and demanded stringent punishment for the culprit who has been apprehended.
In a press release, AMSU asserted that it takes the murder of the minor IDP girl of Akampat Relief Camp from Moreh and a student of Eastern Ideal School, very seriously.
Drawing the attention of the Manipur Government, AMSU has called for rigorous punishment for the culprit as per the law.
Such an immoral individual who looks at women with depravity should even be awarded the death sentence, asserted AMSU.
Condemning the heinous murder, SANULAL said it strongly disagrees with the Central Government's policy of awarding a top ranking position in the State Government to a signatory of the official demand for separate administration who allegedly seeks to balkanise the State.
It has maintained that the continued atrocities committed against women and children might witness a drop if the accused in this case is awarded the death penalty.
SANULAL has also urged the Modi Government to put an end to the incidents of violence in the State of Manipur.
Terming the brutal killing of the displaced girl as a crime against humanity, COHR has demanded stringent punishment for the accused.
COHR also shed light on the numerous challenges faced by IDPs at relief camps including inhumane living conditions, lack of adequate food, lack of privacy, illnesses and failure of the concerned authority to provide proper medical help and lack of means of livelihood, mental disorders etc leading to suicides.
The root cause of such issues are the failure of the State Government to rein in the violence which erupted on May 3, 2023, inability to rehabilitate and resettle the IDPs and failure to provide the UN minimum standards for refugees.
COHR has urged the State and Central Government to ensure that the provisions under the UN's minimum standards for the treatment of refugees are provided to the IDPs, otherwise such grievous incidents/crimes will continue to plague the State, it has warned.
