Imphal, December 28 2025:
Former rebel leader Ningthemcha Sanayaima alias RK Meghen on Sunday said that Manipur has consistently withstood attempts to undermine its existence, asserting that the State's integrity has remained intact despite having been under Burmese (Awa) occupation for seven years and later British rule.
Addressing the 4th general conference of the Tripura Manipuri Student Youth Coordination Committee (TMSYCCO) at Radhamadhab Mandav, Radhanagar, Agartala, RK Meghen stated that efforts to eliminate Meitei community, whom he describe as the frontline protectors of Manipur, has never been possible in history.
He maintained that hostile forces believe Manipur can only be weakened if the strength of the Meitei community declines.
The conference was accompanied by a rally demanding the formation of an Autonomous Council, recognition of the Manipuri language as an associate language of Tripura, introduction of learning education in the Manipuri language, and provision of reservation.
Speaking at a public meeting after the rally, RK Meghen said Manipur has repeatedly faced attempts to bring it under colonial rule and erase its identity.
However, even during periods when independence was lost, he said the forefathers reclaimed sovereignty and preserved Manipur's existence.
He further alleged that efforts to eliminate the Meitei community and undermine Manipur's integrity continue even today, but history shows that such attempts have never been succeeded.
According to him, divisive strategies persist because it is believed that Manipur can be broken only if its core strength deteriorates.
Appealing to all Manipuris and Meitei living across Manipur and other regions, Meghen urged people to identify real threats and stand united to protect the idea of Manipur, cautioning against divisive tactics aimed at breaking social harmony.
The event was also attended by UCM president Yk Dhiren, UPF Manipur president Nongthombam Rupachandra, social activist Y Chandrasekhar Singha, Tripura Women Council president Hawaibam Ongbi Maya Singha, and civil activist Subhas Deb, among others.
