An independent candidate filed his nomination papers for the bye-election to the Konthoujam A/C.Today was the last day of filing nominations.
If those who have filed their nominations pass the scrutiny tomorrow, then the number of candidates in the fray is likely to be three.The last date of withdrawal of candidatures as per notification of the state chief electoral officer (CEO) is January 31. Khangembam Ranjit, a former lecturer of the DM College of Arts and Commerce filed his nomination papers today.
Three separate nomination papers were submitted in his favour.
Ranjit giving reasons for contesting the election said that as an independent candidate not belonging to any political party he can work actively for the welfare of the Kongthoujam A/C.He is contesting the election with the objective of eliminating the power hungry parties by defeating their nominees, Ranjit asserted.
Many people have been disappointed with the false promises made by earlier MLAs.
These MLAs had withdrawn 70 percent of the MLA's Local Area Development funds without doing any work.
He has enough evidences to prove it, the independent candidate asserted.
A total of 24,601 electors can use their franchise in the bye-election to be held in 28 polling stations across the constituency.
Out of the total electors, 12,125 are male while 12,476 are female.
The polling hour is from 7 am till 3 pm on February 14, Returning Officer, H Kunjabihari said.
