BJP leaders want CBI probe in Loktak clean-up project

The BJP today expressed dissatisfaction over the implementation of the Rs.224 crore Loktak Lake clean-up project and demanded a CBI probe into the award of the work to New Delhi based K Pro Infra Works Private Ltd alleging irregularities at the time of awarding the project.
A three-member BJP parliamentary team led by vice president MP Bijoya Chakraborty arrived here today and inspected the implementation of the work at the project site in Loktak lake.
Other members included secretary, MP Kirit Somaiya, and general secretary Tapir Gao among others.
Travelling by motorboats they took stock of the progress of the work implementation.
MP Kirit Somaiya informed reporters that the BJP's fact finding team has started investigation into the looting of public funds in the Congress ruled NE states.
BJP is investigating into various scams involving Congress leaders and Chief Ministers in the NE, and that a preliminary report has been compiled.
The MP said, a final report will be ready by February and will be submitted to its president and its national leaders including Sushma Swaraj for onward submission to the Prime Minister with copies to leaders of other opposition parties in the Parliament.
Asserting that Loktak is a priceless asset of not only Manipur but also of the nation he observed that the huge amount of money invested for the conservation and development of the lake has vanished like salt in water.
He said, there were no signs of proper use of the crores of rupees released from the Central government.

Funds have been siphoned off by the Congress led SPF government.
The Rs.224 crore Loktak lake clean-up project awarded to the New Delhi based K Pro Infra Works Private Ltd is one of the projects which needs to be investigated.
A report on the process at the time of awarding the work and the mode of implementation of the project will be tabled in the Parliament along with other scams which have surfaced in the state, Somaiya said.
He insisted that the Planning Commission and the Ministry of Environment should send their teams to assess the ground reality of the project implementation.
Further, schemes for rehabilitation of the fishermen of the lake should also be taken up.
The BJP national leader asserted that the party is launching various forms of agitations against the UPA government at the Centre against corruption and price rise.
The party is planning another rally on February 5. Tapir Gao, national general secretary said the team is also looking into the various alleged misappropriation of funds invested for the development of road communication in the state.
Vice president, Bijoya Chakarborty recalled the giving away of Kabow valley of Manipur to Burma (Myanmar) and suggested that the Union government initiate action for the return of the valley to Manipur.
Leaders of the state unit of the party accompanied the BJP Parliamentary team to and interacted with the people residing at the periphery of the lake who relayed their sufferings since the enactment of the Loktak Protection Act.
BJP state unit president, Sh Shantikumar who was part of the team said that the state unit of the party will be taking part in the February 5 nationwide protest against corruption.
They are also planning to organise the rally at the district levels too.
