Symposium on "Literacy Through Multilingualism" held

Imphal, April 23 2026:
The Department of Library and Information Science, Manipur University, in collaboration with the Manipur Library Association and IASLIC Zone-5, Kolkata, successfully organised a National Symposium on "Literacy Through Multilingualism" today.
The event, held in online mode, coincided with the global observance of World Book and Copyright Day.
The symposium was part of the ongoing Ruby Jubilee celebrations of the Department of Library and Information Science.
Prof Charoibam Ibohal Singh, Head, Department of Library and Information Science, MU and president of MALA, chaired the observance.
In his address, Prof Ibohal emphasized the critical role of multilingualism in educational transformation, particularly in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.Dr Dalip Singh, Assistant Professor at the Department, served as the programme host, while Dr Rajkumari Sofia Devi gave the welcome address.
Dr Banasree Roy, general secretary of IASLIC, introduced the event's objectives to the virtual audience.
The symposium featured two distinct technical sessions led by invited experts.
In Session-I, Dr Nabi Hasan, Head Librarian at IIT Delhi, delivered a comprehensive talk on "Copyright in the Age of AI: Issues, Challenges, and Institutional Responses".
In Session-II, Prof PK Panigrahi, Director of IQAC at the University of Calcutta, presented on "Literacy Through Multilingualism: Learning and Educational Transformation in India".
A total of 147 participants from across the country registered for the virtual event.
