Imphal, April 20 2024:
Manipuri feature film 'ONENESS', helmed by director Priyakanta Laishram, has been selected to have its world premiere at the esteemed KASHISH Pride Film Festival 2024, the biggest queer film festival in South Asia.
The ground-breaking movie has already made history as the first Manipuri film to focus on same-sex relationships.
Scheduled to take place from May 15 to 19, 2024, in Mumbai, this international film festival will feature 'ONENESS' as the sole queer film representing Northeast India this year.
"It's a wonderful feeling to finally have the world premiere of the film after facing numerous challenges over the past 2 years since its inception.
Despite facing obstacles such as the violence in Manipur and bans from certain organizations due to its homosexual theme, we persevered.
This year, I decided to kick off our film's premiere at film festivals.
KASHISH was the first festival I submitted to, and thankfully, it was selected," shared Priyakanta Laishram.
Produced by Roushil Singla and Priyakanta Laishram with an ensemble cast that includes Maya Choudhury, Priyakanta Laishram, Suraj Ngashepam, Sachinker Sagolsem, Harendra Laishram, Ramva Leishangthem, and Rojesh Saikhom in key roles, 'ONENESS' is a project of great significance for director Priyakanta Laishram, marking his debut as a full-length feature filmmaker under the Priyakanta Productions banner.
'ONENESS' explores the complexities of love and relationships within the context of Manipuri society, shedding light on the struggles faced by individuals in same-sex relationships.
It aims to challenge societal norms and promote acceptance and understanding of LGBTQ+ individuals.
