Imphal, April 20 2024:
Claim-ing that he (a polling agent of Congress candidate Angom-cha Bimol Akoijam at Kyamgei) was assaulted by a group of goons wearing black dresses on the election day (April 19), the polling agent Yumnam Santa has deman-ded that a repoll be conducted at polling station no 6/3 set up at Kyamgei Heibong Makhong High School.
Yumnam Santa, the polling agent of the Congress candidate is a resident of Kyamgei Maning Leikai.
Speaking to the media at the residence of Bimol Akoijam at Keishamthong Keithel today, Santa claim-ed that he was called out by a group of people who wore black dresses for objecting to the use of unfair means during the election at the polling station.
"I told them that we can talk after the election is over," Santa narrated and claimed he was, however dragged out from the polling room by the miscreants right in front of the polling officer.
The polling exercise was never fair, he said while demanding that a repoll must be conducted for the polling station no 6/3 of Kyamgei.
Saying that he was assaulted by a group of around 50 people, Santa added that he was rescued by his spouse and sister.
Santa went on to state that there is a CCTV footage of the miscreants entering his house about 10 minutes after he was beaten.
Violating the fundamental rights of the people by the same group which came out to protect the people is disheartening, Santa asserted and sought support from all civil society organisations and Meira Paibi groups to correct the wrong.
Though Santa refrained from taking any name, his sister made a strong claim that the people who assaulted her brother were all volunteers of a particular group.
She claimed that her brother could have died had she not intervened.
Saying that her son is also a volunteer of the particular group, she added that she has been advising her son not to associate with the group as their conduct is doubtful.
Claiming that the particular group has close association with BJP and it was formed to achieve the political interest of the party, she asked how normal people can live in such an environment.
Wife of Santa, Yumnam (ongbi) Mombi said that she and her sister-in law rescued her husband from the hands of over 200 goons and took him inside their house.
Claiming that the goons followed them inside their house and intimidated them by brandishing their guns, Mombi alleged that the goons threatened to shoot her husband.
She alleged that another group of miscreants came inside their house and fired some rounds.
Claiming that one of the miscreants even pushed her by holding her neck and left with a warning, she sought support from the people to reveal the truth.
