Imphal, April 20 2024:
The election agent of, Kachui Timothy Zimik, Naga People's Front (NPF) candidate in the 2-Outer Manipur (ST) Parliamentary Constituency for the 18th Lok Sabha Election 2024, has submitted an application to the Returning Officer of Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency urging for considering re-poll at certain polling stations in Churachandpur and Saikot assembly constituencies.
The application highlighted concerns raised by the Kuki community's MLAs and CSOs regarding the displacement of a significant number of Kuki voters to other states and towns, including Assam, Delhi, and Kolkata.
Despite efforts, including a petition before the Supreme Court, to enable these internally displaced Kukis to vote, their requests were rejected by the Supreme Court in its final order dated April 15.Nonetheless, votes of the internally displaced Kuki community members have been cast through impersonation and booth capturing by armed militant groups, the NPF agent alleged.
These claims are purportedly supported by CCTV footage from the affected polling stations.
Particularly, polling stations located in Churachandpur town (58 Churachandpur A/C) and 59 (Saikot A/C under Churachandpur district) have reported unusually high polling percentages, prompting suspicion of foul play , the agent pointed out.
Furthermore, the agent asserted that voters and workers were threatened with arms and forcibly chased away by militants, undermining the integrity of electoral process.
