World Oral Health Day observed widely

A month-long observance of World Oral Health Day 2025 was launched on Thursday at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal under the theme, "A Happy Mouth is...A Happy Mind" .
Additionally, Prof N Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent of RIMS Hospital flagged off a Cyclothon rally from Jubilee Hall, RIMS Imphal in the presence of RK Mecolt Singh, Deputy Director (Admn) RIMS, Imphal; Dr B Praveen Reddy, Principal, Dental College RIMS, Imphal and Dr RK Ratankumar Singh, representative of Indian Dental Association (IDA), Manipur State Branch.
According to a release issued by RIMS, the Cyclothon 2025 was organised by Dental College, RIMS, Imphal in association with IDA Manipur Branch to promote oral health awareness and fitness among the public.
The cycle rally covered a well-planned route through RIMS Gate, Uripok, Overbridge, Kangla Gate, DM College Gate, Nagamapal, RIMS Road, and RIMS Gate, before concluding at the Dental College, RIMS .
The Cyclothon 2025 witnessed enthusiastic participation from dental students, faculty members, healthcare professionals, and cycling enthusiasts, all advocating for the importance of maintaining oral hygiene and overall health.
The initiative aimed to raise awareness about the crucial link between physical fitness and dental well-being, emphasizing preventive dental care for a healthier lifestyle.
Speaking at the event, Prof N Sanjib Singh lauded the efforts of the organisers for integrating fitness and oral health awareness.
Dr B Praveen Reddy highlighted the significance of such initiatives in promoting public health education and encouraging active participation in preventive dental care.
Dr RK Ratankumar Singh reaffirmed IDA's commitment to fostering community engagement and spreading awareness about oral health across the State.
NOHP
The National Oral Health Programme (NOHP), SHS, NHM, Manipur also celebrated World Oral Health Day at the Heritage Hall of IMA, Lamphelpat today.
The event was graced by dignitaries, including Dr Chambo Gonmei, Director, Health Services, Manipur; Dr N Hemantakumar, Director, Family Welfare Services, Manipur and Dr N Bino Singh, Additional Director, Health Services (MD), Manipur.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Chambo Gonmei said that maintaining good oral hygiene is crucial for overall health, preventing dental problems like cavities and gum disease, and reducing the risk of systemic diseases.
He asserted that oral diseases are the most common form of noncommunicable disease with nearly 3.5 billion people suffering from oral disorders worldwide.
The Director mentioned that out of the 16 District Hospitals in the State, 15 District Hospitals have been equipped with dental facilities.
"Dental facilities are also available at 4 Sub Divisional Hospitals, 17 CHCs, 20 PHCs and 1 UPHC", he added.
Dr Chambo Gonmei also shared that under the NOHP, human resource training has been conducted at 57 Dental Units located in the State to ensure the people receive quality dental service.
As part of the event, outstanding Dental Units of DH, CHC/SDH and PHC/UPHC were also presented awards.
