MSCW holds legal awareness programme in Kangpokpi to empower women

Imphal, June 19 2026:
The Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW), in collaboration with Rongmei Naga Luh Phwam Manipur (RNLPM) Ntayphay Luangriam (NTL), organised a one-day legal awareness programme at Siangai Namdai Baptist Church Community Hall, Kangpokpi district on Friday.
The programme aimed to create awareness among women and community members about their legal rights, available redressal mechanisms and the importance of legal literacy in promoting gender justice and empowerment.
More than 120 women from neighbouring villages attended the event.
The programme was attended by Th Tiningpham Monsang, Chairperson.
MSCW; Sk Sophia, Member, MSCW; W Phajatombi Devi, Member Secretary, MSCW and Additional Director (DIPR); Kamujai Kamei, Chairman, Siangai Namdai; and Gaidimmeilu Gonmei, President, RNLPM-NTL, as presidium members.
Delivering the keynote address, W Phajatombi Devi highlighted the importance of legal awareness and women's empowerment through access to justice and institutional support mechanisms.
She emphasised that legal rights awareness enables women to protect themselves against discrimination, violence, and exploitation, and to participate confidently in social and economic development.
She further urged the participants to disseminate the knowledge gained from the programme within their communities so that more women can benefit from available legal safeguards and support services.
Speaking on the occasion, MSCW Chairperson Th Tiningpham Monsang stressed the importance of legal awareness as a foundation for women's empowerment.
She encouraged women to make use of available legal safeguards and support mechanisms, stating that awareness and timely action are essential to fight injustice.
The technical session featured Advocate Thiyam Rajkishore, who spoke on "Women & Laws: Redressal Mechanism", while Kh Lucy Jacky, Deputy Chief, Legal Aid Defence Counsel, delivered a session on "Legal Literacy of Women" .
Both resource persons explained various legal protections available to women and the importance of accessing justice.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Grace Kamei, Secretary, RNLPM-NTL .
