Training programme on IPM kicks off, farmer and scientist interaction held in Bishnupur

With the participation of farmers from different regions of Bishnupur district, a training programme on "Promotion of Integrated Pest Management Technologies" was kicked off today at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bishnupur in Utlou.
The programme was sponsored by NEH Component, ICAR-National Research Institute of Integrated Pest Management, New Delhi and organised by KVK, Bishnupur.
The inaugural event was attended by Professor K Mamocha Singh, Head, Department of Entomology, College Of Agriculture, Central Agricultural University as the chief guest; Padma Shri awardee and former Union Minister, former Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur and Chairman of KVK Bishnupur Th Chaoba Singh as the functional president and Dr Shravan Manbhar Haldhar, Principal Scientist, ICAR-NRIIPM New Delhi as the guest of honour.
At the programme, the attending farmers were divided into three bases of 40 farmers each to be given training for three days.
Distribution of input materials was kicked off at the inaugural ceremony today.
All farmers who participate in the training programme will receive input materials.
Speaking on the occasion, Th Chaoba highlighted the important role played by trainers in conducting such farmers' programmes.
With the increasing pace of development, old farming methods have been replaced by new efficient techniques.
In the olden days, crops were grown once annually, now double and even triple cropping has been introduced.
He expressed hope that through the training programme, experts will introduce new technology and techniques to the farmers and help in increasing their crop yield.
During the technical session of today's programme, SMS (Soil Science) KVK Bishnupur P Bidyananda Singh, SMS Plant Protection Kh Maipak Singh and SMS Horticulture & SMS Agri Extension KVK Bishnupur spoke about various topics including "Soil Sampling Techniques and Efficient Fertilizer Management", "Integrated Pest Management of Kharif Crops" and "Farmer Scientist Discussion on Adoption of IPM Technologies".
Separately, a farmer-scientist interaction meeting was organized at Bishnupur Mamang Leikai, one of the established Model IPM Villages, under CoA, CAU, Imphal in collaboration with ICAR-NRIIPM, New Delhi with the objective of strengthening farmers' knowledge and promoting the scientific adoption of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices.
The programme was chaired by Professor SM Haldhar, Professor K Mamocha Singh, village representative Ibohal and Dr Pukhram Bhumita, Principal Investigator of the project.
The meeting commenced with an introductory address by Dr Pukhram Bhumita, who highlighted the encouraging response from the farmers and the rapid adoption of IPM technologies in the village within a short period of time.
During the technical interaction, Professor SM Haldhar emphasized the significance of IPM in sustainable crop protection, and he encouraged the farmers to become an entrepreneur by developing their own bio input at a small scale.
Professor Mamocha Singh explained the effects of injudicious use of insecticide and why people should adopt IPM.
He further addressed various queries raised by the farmers and provided practical guidance on the effective implementation of IPM practices at the field level.
As part of the programme, an on-farm demonstration was conducted through a field visit, where farmers were guided on the practical aspects of IPM implementation and how to use NPSS app in the field.
Dr H Punabati explained about the proper agronomic practices and their importance.
Different bio-inputs were also distributed to the farmers under the project.
The programme witnessed the active participation of more than fifty farmers from the village.
