MCC extols LOUSAL's cycle rally

Imphal, February 12, 2011: The Manipur Cycle Club expressed its whole hearted support to the Cycle Rally campaign launched by the Loumi Sinmi Apunba Lup (LOUSAL) under the theme �Save the Agricultural Land'.

In a press release, the club stated that the use of cycle in the campaign gives an impetus to the club's initiatives to promote cycle as popular means of local conveyances for better health, economy, environment and social benefits.

The effort of LOUSAL to save increasingly threatened space for agricultural activities is closely related with the economy of the state.

The present trends of uncontrolled land grabbing of agricultural space and absence of long term visionary policies for food sovereignty and sustainable development is destroying the future of Manipur.

The increasing trend of using agricultural land for non agricultural activities not only contributes to the deteriorating environmental situation in the state but also directly affects the state's primary sector on which majority of the population depends, it added.

MCC appealed to the government to take the issue seriously and take up appropriate legislative measures while keeping in mind food security and healthy environment for future generations.

It also appealed to formulate appropriate policies and spaces to promote the use of cycles in the state.
